Samsung Launches New 4G LTE Smartphone and Mobile Hotspot Powered by Marvell's Industry-Leading ARMADA Mobile LTE Solutions

Marvell's field-proven multi-mode 4G LTE communication processor PXA1920 and thin modem PXA1802 are at the core of Samsung's new GALAXY CORE MINI 4G smartphone and its multi-mode LTE mobile hotspot SM-V101F

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Aug. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Marvell (NASDAQ: MRVL) today announced that Samsung launched the new GALAXY CORE MINI 4G LTE smartphone and its multi-mode mobile hotspot, the SMV101F, both powered by Marvell's® award-winning ARMADA® Mobile PXA family. Marvell's field-proven multi-mode 4G LTE communication processor, the ARMADA Mobile PXA1920, and thin modem, the Marvell ARMADA Mobile PXA1802, power the GALAXY CORE MINI 4G and the Samsung SM-V101F mobile hotspot, respectively.

Samsung has chosen Marvell's field-proven multi-mode 4G LTE communication system-on-chip (SoC), the ARMADA Mobile PXA1920, for its LTE smartphone, the Samsung GALAXY CORE MINI 4G.  The Marvell PXA1920 features a quad-core ARM Cortex A7 processor with high performance graphics integrated with field-proven cellular modems supporting LTE Time-Division Duplex (TDD), Time Division High Speed Packet Access Plus (TD-HSPA+) and Enhanced Data for GSM Environment (EDGE). Samsung's new smartphone is now shipping to China Mobile Communications Corporation (CMCC) and is available to CMCC's nearly 800 million subscribers.

Leveraging Marvell's PXA1802 multi-mode LTE thin-modem, the Samsung SM-V101F mobile hotspot is the company's multi-mode LTE mobile hotspot offering for the European market. The Marvell PXA1802 is one of the industry's most sophisticated LTE modem chipsets that supports FDD- LTE standards with Category 4 150Mbps (megabits-per-second) downlink throughput, Release 7 Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) HSPA+ and Enhanced General Packet Radio Service (EGPRS). The Samsung SM-V101F mobile hotspot is currently shipping.

Powering the Samsung CORE MINI 4G smartphone, Marvell's PXA1920 incorporates high performance graphics together with Marvell's advanced Avastar® 88W8777 wireless connectivity, including Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) + Bluetooth 4.0 + FM single-chip SoC, the L2000 Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Hybrid Location Processor, an integrated power management unit PM820 with integrated audio codec, and 88RF858 high-performance multimode LTE transceiver.

Featured in Samsung's multi-mode 4G LTE mobile hotspot, the PXA1802 combines Marvell's leading silicon and cellular expertise to provide state-of-the-art mobile broadband connectivity for a multitude of consumer devices, such as smartphones and tablets, mobile hotspots and laptops.
