ITechLaw World Technology Law Conference and Annual Meeting Set for May 14-16 in New York City

The International Technology Law Association (ITechLaw) will hold its 2014 World Technology Law Conference and Annual Meeting at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City, May 14-16. ITechLaw is the premier worldwide organization for legal professionals practicing in the global technology sector, with members in over 50 countries.

As always, the ITechLaw conference will feature a one-of-a-kind program of sessions led by prominent speakers from around the world. Topics will focus on the newest technology law developments, including hot topics in privacy and social media. In addition to its valuable educational offerings, the conference offers significant networking opportunities and social events. Attendees will include leading attorneys in private practice, in-house counsel, business executives, government officials and academics. Both ITechLaw members and non-members are invited to register for the event.

A highlight of the event is the Keynote address by Luke Dembosky, Deputy Chief for Litigation, Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section, U.S. Department of Justice, entitled "Key Components of a Modern Approach to the Evolving Cybercrime Threat." He will present an overview of the evolving nature of the cybercrime threat, and discuss both how it relates to technology companies and why the traditional law enforcement and industry responses are inadequate for today's threats. He will share with attendees his thoughts on the need to shift to a new, proactive and multi-faceted approach to cybercrime protection.

"The 2014 World Technology Law Conference and Annual Meeting will be an exciting event with an impressive roster of leading speakers. We invite members of ITechLaw and non-members alike to join us," said ITechLaw President Kiran Sandford of Mishcon de Reya. "You will have an invaluable opportunity to hear about the latest cutting-edge developments and to network with like-minded professionals from around the world."

ITechLaw’s conference format is varied, with speaker-led presentations as well as panel discussions and interactive workshops. A few of the hot topics for the two days of sessions in New York are:

  • Privacy: Online Data after Death or Incapacity
  • Legal Implications of Wearable Computing
  • The Future of Bitcoin
  • The Nuances of Crowdfunding
  • Implications of New Top-level Domains
  • Mobile Apps: Working Effectively with Developer Clients
  • The Internet of Things
  • Cloud Computing

Opportunities for social interaction and networking start with the Wednesday evening Welcome Reception in the John Jacob Astor Room of the hotel, and continue throughout the conference during the lunches and networking breaks. Thursday's black-tie Gala Dinner will be unforgettable, taking place in the stunning Delegates Dining Room at the United Nations. Friday's Closing Reception will end the conference with a more informal event at the international, contemporary Vermilion restaurant and bar with its interesting mix of Indian and Latin concepts.

Event sponsorships are still available: information on opportunities to reach ITechLaw's select and sophisticated audience is on the organization's website.
