Solarflare Introduces SolarSecure, a New Layer of Network Security and Visibility for Servers

SolarSecure Provides Real-Time, Active Protection of Sensitive Data Residing on Network Servers -- the Principal Target of Cyber Security Attacks

IRVINE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 01/27/14 -- Solarflare, a leader in application-intelligent 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) networking software and hardware, today announced the launch of SolarSecure™, the first distributed, active security solution that is implemented within network servers, the prime targets of attacks. SolarSecure provides a new level of server protection to mission critical internal networks vulnerable to cyber security breaches.

SolarSecure empowers each server node to monitor and secure network traffic, providing an active checkpoint to ensure network data packets are filtered before entering a networked server. This active security layer is built into Solarflare's industry-leading Flareon™ 10/40GbE network adapters to seamlessly deploy a new level of protection across the enterprise, delivering integrated, real-time, active protection of targeted assets.

"Recent highly-publicized security breaches demonstrate that assailants are targeting enterprise-networked servers where business critical applications and sensitive data are stored, exposing network vulnerabilities at the edge," said Russell Stern, CEO of Solarflare "The 'Internet of Things' initiatives in the industry will exponentially increase the number of potential security breach points, further exposing enterprise applications and data to attacks. SolarSecure is a first-of-its-kind security solution that empowers enterprises with the technological sophistication necessary to effectively enforce security policies. SolarSecure equips network servers to capture, identify and block malicious traffic before it penetrates the operating system or applications on network servers, all without requiring any additional hardware."

SolarSecure adds security and monitoring capabilities to all servers in the enterprise network, including Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS), Packet Capture, Time Synchronization and Time Stamping, providing active protection throughout an organization. SolarSecure also provides a fully compatible interface with other network security and monitoring tools and security, information and event management (SIEM) systems.

Sam Glines, CEO, Norse Corporation, comments: "Security and IT professionals know their enterprise and server provider networks are under constant attack from known and unknown attackers. Norse develops and maintains the world's most comprehensive list of live cyberthreats -- the 'Darklist.' By delivering a solution that can interact and collaborate with other security services in the enterprise, Solarflare's SolarSecure API allows each and every server to be dynamically updated and protected, providing an unprecedented level of scalability for cloud and large scale server deployments. With SolarSecure, security professionals now have the ability to make servers on the network self-protecting against the world's highest-risk IPs, significantly reducing bad actors' ability to breach networks and gain access to corporate assets."

When talking IoT we often focus on the devices, the sensors, the hardware itself. The new smart appliances, the new smart or self-driving cars (which are amalgamations of many ‘things'). When we are looking at the world of IoT, we should take a step back, look at the big picture. What value are these devices providing. IoT is not about the devices, its about the data consumed and generated. The devices are tools, mechanisms, conduits. This paper discusses the considerations when dealing with the...
