Zimbra Named a Finalist for the 'Next Big Thing' at Enterprise 2006

SAN MATEO, Calif., Oct. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Zimbra, the leader in open source, next-generation collaboration and messaging software is one of just five finalists for the "Next Big Thing" at the prestigious Enterprise 2006 conference sponsored by Sand Hill Group, a leading technology investment and consulting firm.

"The Web has evolved into the new collaboration platform, from wikis to tagging, to RSS, there is a shifting paradigm for information-sharing," said Satish Dharmaraj, co-founder and CEO of Zimbra "By offering an innovative, open source alternative to existing collaboration platforms, Zimbra has taken advantage of the changes on the Web and has seen tremendous growth as a result."

Since releasing the Zimbra Collaboration Suite (ZCS) a year ago, Zimbra has developed strong ties with the open source community and consistently seeks feedback from its community of developers and administrators. For example, the August 2006 launch of ZCS 4.0, which features Zimbra Documents, a powerful Web 2.0 application for securely creating, sharing and publishing documents, spreadsheets and folders, was a direct result of community feedback. ZCS 4.0 also features Zimbra Mobile, providing "over the air" synchronization with a wide range of mobile devices.

"Zimbra is proof that open source technologies can have a viable business model. With its innovative features and strong community of open source developers, Zimbra is destined to be the Next Big Thing," said M.R. Rangaswami, co-founder at The Sand Hill Group. "Zimbra has garnered early success by signing up such customers as H & R Block, and we are excited to see what is in store for the future."

The track record for Next Big Thing presenters is impressive. In past years, it has showcased such future revenue generating successes as Kintara, VMWare, and Wily Technologies when they were still small start-ups. Many other Next Big Thing alumni have bright prospects for cementing themselves as leading companies in the technology field.

Zimbra CEO, Satish Dharmaraj will be on hand to present on Zimbra to a group of CIOs on Tuesday, October 10, 2006 in Pebble Beach California. Joining Zimbra as "Next Big Thing" finalists at Enterprise 2006 are NetSuite, OutlookSoft, SOA Software and SensorLogic. Where many organizations get into trouble, however, is that they try to have a broad and deep knowledge in each of these areas. This is a huge blow to an organization's productivity. By automating or outsourcing some of these pieces, such as databases, infrastructure, and networks, your team can instead focus on development, testing, and deployment. Further, organizations that focus their attention on these areas can eventually move to a test-driven development structure that condenses several l...

Never mind that we might not know what the future holds for cryptocurrencies and how much values will fluctuate or even how the process of mining a coin could cost as much as the value of the coin itself - cryptocurrency mining is a hot industry and shows no signs of slowing down. However, energy consumption to mine cryptocurrency is one of the biggest issues facing this industry. Burning huge amounts of electricity isn't incidental to cryptocurrency, it's basically embedded in the core of "mini...
